Club Profile
Follifoot Cricket Club was established in 1846 and celebrated its 160th birthday last year. We are one of the oldest cricket clubs in England and have played cricket continuously every year since inception save during the two World Wars. Our constancy is in no small part the result of the continuity of community provided by the strong support from Follifoot village and the collegiate and friendly atmosphere that has pervaded the Club over time. As much as we respect our past, we continue to look forward and are excited by the continued success of our senior teams and particularly by the growth of our junior section with five sides at levels below under -17 for the 2009 season.
We joined the Airedale and Wharfedale Senior Cricket League in 1964 and our First XI play in the 'A' Division and were runners-up in 2005 missing the Championship by only 5 points. We have also been runners-up in the Waddilove Cup (twice), regional champions in the National Village Knock Out, Harrogate Evening League Champions and runners-up in the Birtwhistle Cup amongst an array of honours in the last ten years. We have also attracted players of the calibre of Derek Parry, the former West Indian Test spin bowler and Darren Pattinson now playing state cricket in Australia and for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship.
We are blessed with a classic village cricket ground, superbly maintained by our long serving, dedicated groundsman, Steve Smart, who is joined this year by Ian Bullock. We continue to try to improve our facilities and have installed two lanes of all weather nets in the 2007. We also hope to upgrade our site screens this season and to put in motion a significant modernisation of our pavilion for the 2010 season.
We are committed to playing as high a standard of competitive cricket as we can at all levels of the Club, but equally we jealously guard the essential village cricket club character of our Club.
