First Team v Bilton

Follifoot took maximum points at home to Bilton.

Bilton, batting first, got off to a quick start and were 55 in the 12th over before Blackford removed Walker LBW.

The introduction of Sweeney slowed the scoring rate down and Procter picked up a couple of wickets to reduce Bilton to 82-4 at drinks after Blackford had trapped Cannings LBW. A useful stand between Clemerson (21) and Blenkiron (60) enabled Bilton to post a total of 204 – 7 after Tietjens made a quick-fire 21 not out. Sweeney bowled magnificently and was unfortunate not to pick up any wickets during his marathon 21 over spell. Blackford, again registered a 5 wicket haul.

Blackford 18 4 67 5

Yelding 4 0 29 0

Sweeney 21 8 57 0

Procter 7 1 31 2

In reply, Follifoot were soon 22-2 after Heptinstall removed Stanford and Morrison LBW. An excellent 133 run partnership between Bowes (58) and Sweeney (70) left Follifoot requiring 50 to win with 15 overs remaining. Bowes and Sweeney were removed in quick succession by Walker and it was left to Brian Smart (15) Paul Miller (9) Paul Angove (1) and Ant Yelding (8) to scramble the required runs. Things were starting to get tight when Sean Martin was joined by Oral Blackford to see the side home – Sean popping a six over the boundary to send the Follifoot players into raptures with 2.2 overs remaining.

An excellent team performance that keeps Follifoot in the hunt for promotion.

Follifoot v Harden

Follifoot 1st XI slipped to a disappointing home defeat against Harden.

Having won the toss and put Harden into bat excellent tight bowling reduced the visitors to 48-4 at drinks and 62-6 with 15 overs left.

Harden posted a score of 115 all out with all Follifoots bowlers performing well and the fielders taking every catch offered.

Oral Blackford 12.2 3 31 3

Ant Yelding 8 1 25 1

Peter Sweeney 17 8 25 4

Richard Procter 12 4 29 2

Follifoot’s reply got off to the worst possible start – Mike Stanford playing on to the 3rd ball. It was clear it was not going to be plain sailing and so it proved as Follifoot were reduced to 32-4 in the 15th over. A stand of 50 between Chris Dawson and Mike Halmshaw (15) steadied the ship but when Dawson was caught behind for a very positive 33 (including 8 boundaries) Harden’s belief grew. Still requiring only 35 runs to win with 5 wickets left and 17 overs Follifoot capitulated to 107 all out leaving Paul Angove 19n.o and stranded at the none striker’s end and 8 overs still to use. This was definitely a game Follifoot should not have lost but a mixture of poor shot selection and questionable umpiring decisions condemned Follifoot to their 4th defeat of the season.

Richard Wear was the pick of the bowlers claiming 7-24 from 11.2 overs.

All 3 teams above Follifoot claimed maximum points leaving promotion a remote possibility.

Tong Park Esholt is the venue for next week’s game.

2ndXI v Green Lane

Follifoot 159 for 9 (D Nudds 45 no, S Martin 36, L Ford 32)

Green Lane 160 for 4
